How to Make Money through Hits on the Internet
1. Sign up for the Adsense program at Google.com, as this is one of the fastest ways to capitalize off your hits. Adsense is an advertising network full of advertisers that want to place ads on websites and compensate website owners, or 'publishers,' for clicks on their ads. To get an account, Adsense requires information about you and your site. Once you have an account, place the Adsense code on your website and you can start making money within minutes. A click on an ad on your site can cost an advertiser as little as five cents, of which Google gets a cut before you do, so do not expect Adsense to be incredibly lucrative.
2. Explore other advertising networks that better suit your needs by searching for 'ad networks' on search engines. While Adsense is one of the biggest ad networks, it is not necessarily the best one for every publisher, and some advertising networks compensate at higher rates for particular sites.
3. Sell your own ad space. Ad networks do the selling for you, leaving you to worry about the hits you are generating for you website. However, ad networks take a percentage of the revenue you generate for having made the sell with the advertisers. To eliminate ad networks' percentage of the revenue you generate, sell ad space on your website directly to advertisers. This is nearly impossible to do unless you have hundreds of thousands of hits per month; nevertheless, you get all of the revenue you generate if you are able to make the sales yourself.
4. Sign up for an affiliate program. This type of program allows a publisher to work directly with an advertiser and earn a predetermined amount of money for each action the publisher generates for the advertiser. For example, if someone on your website clicks on one of your advertiser's links and that person goes on to buy something from the advertiser, you will get a percentage, or set amount, of that purchase paid to you. An effective way to use affiliate programs is to work with advertisers in an industry directly related to the content generating hits for your website, such as using StubHub.com's affiliate program on a website about buying cheap event tickets.
5. Sell your own products. If you are not interested in being the middle man, you can always use hits on your website as a means to sell your own products. You can place links on your website in the same way you would with an advertising network or affiliate program, only these links can take people to your own store, where you sell your own products.
