1. Determine the product you want to sell through your website. Finding a unique niche will likely lead to greater success, as selling common items will have more competition from established websites.
2. Register a domain name and create a website based on your products. The website should be easy for visitors to navigate, yet still entice them to make a purchase. Detailed descriptions and photos of your items instill buyer confidence. If you are unfamiliar with website development, consider outsourcing the design to a third party.

3. Promote your website to attract prospective buyers. This can be done through basic search engine traffic or through paid advertising. Attracting traffic from search engines is better long term, but it takes time for your pages to be indexed. Popular paid advertising services include Google Adsense, Yahoo Publishing Network and Bidvertiser.
4. Contact owners of websites in your niche and inquire if they have interest in a link exchange, meaning you place a link to their website on your page and vice versa. This can be beneficial for both parties.
5. Respond to inquires from people interested in your goods or services. With good customer service, you are likely to have your website's presence spread through word of mouth.
