How to Place Ads on a Blog

1. Create a Google AdSense account. This is one of the most widespread services for placing ads on a blog. The service is free to publishers, such as bloggers. Once Google approves your website for advertising, you can create an ad template on the AdSense platform. This template specifies the visual appearance of your ads, including the colors of text, links and background shading. Additionally, the size and type of the ad are set. Ads may be small squares, tall 'skyscraper' blocks or image-based ads, such as banners. Once completed, the AdSense platform provides you with an 'embed' code. Copy and paste this code into any blog post or blog template. The ads will automatically appear and their content is usually associated with the content on your blog. When users click, your AdSense account earns money.
2. Advertise on your blog using the Kontera system. This advertising platform allows you to integrate ads related to the content of your blog. Unlike other advertisements, which take up space on your page, Kontera ads are contextual. Certain words and phrases will trigger the ad on your blog, and they become highlighted on the Web page. When a visitor hovers their mouse over one of these, a pop-up ad appears relating to the highlighted text. It is thus possible for a single blog page to contain many Kontera ads without actually using any space on the screen. The ads may contain text, images or video in their pop-up windows.

3. Write the advertisements yourself and earn income from the products or services you discuss. The Blogging Ads service allows you to create a blog post that is itself an advertisement. It is not necessary that you disclose to your visitors that you are promoting a product or service. If the Blogging Ads system approves your blog post, you are paid for the publishing it on your site. An advantage to this system is that your blog does not appear to have advertisements. You choose what appears and when. Additionally, you are paid regardless of the behavior of your visitors. They do not need to click on anything to generate revenue from the ad. Unlike other ad services, however, the ads are not automatically created so consistent time is required for you to place ads on your blog in this way.
